Reading:
For adults: The Bostonians by Henry James. Henry James writes about the culture wars! On the one hand there is an abolitionist and radical feminist, and on the other a former plantation and slave owner who fought for the Confederacy. He prefers the latter.
For five-year olds: Octopuses have Zero Bones by Anne Richardson. A book full of facts for your scientifically minded kids, including a subtle introduction to large numbers that will probably become handy later on.
For toddlers: Hello Hello Colors by Brendan Wenzel. Does your toddler have a passion for animals and a burgeoning awareness of colo(u)rs? This is a fun read.
Watching:
Fiddler on the Roof dir. Norman Jewison. As a parent, you raise your children to be happy and have the best possible life, according to your understanding of the world. What if the world changes?
TCM Time:
The days are short, and the nights are long; in TCM, in contrast to a lot of holiday excess, it’s a good time to go to bed early and sleep in late! This helps nourish our yin and essence, compared to the hot and busy seasons of spring and summer.
