About

I’m Ali Jopp, a Registered Acupuncturist in Nova Scotia and a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In my practice I focus on gynaecology, fertility, menopause, digestive issues, auto-immune conditions, mental health and insomnia. As a mother, I have a particular interest (and advanced training) in maternal health, including labour preparation and postpartum care.

As a Doctor of TCM and Registered TCM.P in BC I am able to prescribe herbal medicine in addition to acupuncture.

I grew up in a working class home with economic insecurity, and several of my extended family members struggled with mental health. My family also instilled the values of love, loyalty, hard work, and determination.

These early experiences inform my understanding of epigenetic trauma, poverty, and intersectionality, and shape my perspective of how to offer clinical care, including offering sliding scale and free treatments for those in need.

I am profoundly grateful to have discovered Traditional East Asian Medicine and its attendant philosophy and worldview which have shifted my perspective on life. Its lessons on the inevitability of change, and how to move through it, such as “sweet life, bitter taste; bitter taste, sweet life” and “chop wood, carry water” have also been modelled to me by exemplary people in my life.

I am lucky to be a mother and partner, and to continue to learn the lessons of love, responsibility and adaptability that being a part of a family requires.

At its root, my practice is inspired by my beloved college teacher Dr. Jing Zhang and the importance of “yangsheng” or “life nourishing practices.” 

A treatment with me will always include take home care such as dietary and herbal recommendations, qi gong exercises, acupressure, meridian massage, and lifestyle changes.
