What should I expect during my appointment?
An assessment consists of the 4 pillars of TCM diagnosis: looking, feeling, listening, and asking. I will look at your tongue and face, take your pulse, palpate your meridians and abdomen, and ask you questions about your health history.
I strive to maintain a consent based practice. This means that I will explain to you what I am doing and ask before palpating your body or needling acupuncture points.
Treatment will primarily be acupuncture, but does include acupressure, tui na (Chinese meridian massage), cupping, and gua sha. An essential part of TCM are lifestyle habits. I will likely give you home based care practices to supplement your treatment. These can include: self-massage, meridian stretching, moxibustion, dietary changes, or meditation practices. We can work together collaboratively to decide which practices are best for you, and what you are able to include in your routine.
Although some treatment modalities and acupuncture points are better than others, patient comfort is paramount to healing. We can always work find a work around if you are uncomfortable with any acupuncture point or modality. If a point or treatment modality becomes uncomfortable during treatment, we can stop or adjust at any time.
How much is my appointment? Will insurance cover it?
TCM Acupuncture: 60 minutes: $90
Tui Na: 30 minutes: $50 (must be accompanied by acupuncture to be covered by insurance billing).
Qi Gong: 30 minutes: free (for existing clients only).
Acupuncture is covered under most insurance policies. I do direct billing for Blue Cross and companies under the Telus Health umbrella.
